22nd Annual
" John Souvage" - Leadership Camp
for Interact (International Action)
and other high school Leaders
in Rotary District 7080
September 14-16, 2018
Who can go to this camp?
There are two routes. Every high school in Halton is sent an invitation in the Spring to recommend 2 or 3 students that the school believes have exceptional Leadership potential. Those students will be advised by school personnel to apply. If the school has not advised you there is nothing to prevent you from approaching your guidance advisor but don't just apply without sponsorship because the cost is approximately $250. With sponsorship you will only pay $125.
The second route is through the Rotary Interact clubs that exist in many schools. As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact. Students who are on the executive of their club will be offered the opportunity to apply for our Camp. A total of 30-35 students can be accommodated so the final list will be assessed to choose the most qualified students.
We are also accepting applications for the Jr Chap roles. You need to have previously attended the camp and wish to return in the organisational role.
The camp starts with the bus trip to Haliburton early on Friday morning. Please check the TRANPORTATION tab for the exact pick-up times for Burlington.
Participants will have to arrange for the day off school. Students will be assigned to a specific bus, and will be given a variety of tasks to perform on the bus trip, which will be important for the rest of the camp.
The detailed itinerary for the three days of the camp is not available since that is part of the discovery process and the leadership activities. However, most of the activities will take place out of doors and will involve some physical exertion.
There will be team activities around management and "trust" games. There will also be some free time for sports, including swimming and canoeing.
It will be challenging and fun.
The month of September can be cool in Haliburton, so participants should have a good quality sleeping bag, and warm clothing. A detailed list of what each student should bring can be seen on the "NEED TO BRING" tab above.
The only applications that are acceptable are to be done on-line using the TAB-APPLICATION at the top of this page.
You must submit both the Application on-line and
the Consent form which you need to print out and mail to
Mr G. Willard , 500 Kilarney Court
Burlington ON. L7L 2N7
with a cheque for $125 payable to the Rotary Leadership Camp
Because we have certain targets of student mix and standards we may not make our final confirmation of attendance until August since we continue to get applications until almost the last minute. If this is a problem for you, please let us know.
Please be aware that if you cancel less than one week from the start you may be liable for the full cost of the Camp since certain commitments have to be made on your behalf. However, if you notify us in time for us to contact a student on our back up list, you might not have to pay.
We are going late September which allows some pre-organization after school starts but hopefully in time for good weather.
